Thank you

As part of our living thank-you, we continue with our thank you to those who work behind the scenes to care for our common home from all communities. This week we thank the scientists who have opened our eyes.

Let us thank the observant scientists who noticed the changes to the planet systems and sought to understand their causes.

Scientists began observing the increasing trends in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and temperatures in the 1960s. We thank them for their meticulous work and dedication. Without them we may not have noticed the changes we were making until it was too late.

Scientists postulated models for the link between greenhouse gas concentrations and temperature rise, identified greenhouse gases and determined what climatic changes can result from a warmer planet.

We thank them for their insight and forward thinking. Without them we would not be able to unpick what is natural and what is human-induced. With their work we can understand the risks and prepare societal and technological mitigations.

Some of the scientists are well-known, but many have names who are only known by their colleagues. Many dedicated their lives to seek the truth and for their work we are thankful.
