Thank you

As part of our living thank-you, we continue with our thank you to those who work behind the scenes to care for our common home from all communities. In this final week we thank the early investors and early adopters who have provided finance and economic demand for green tech.

Let us thank the early investors and early adopters.

It is amazing to think how affordable the alternative technologies have now become. For example, the cost of renewables is now more attractive than the fossil fuel options in many cases. But it was not always like this. Even if the alternative green technology had cost more, we would still have had to transition away from fossil fuels for the sake of our children and our planet and would have needed to pay the extra to do it. How happily fortunate we are that the economic incentive is now towards the greener and cleaner alternatives!

We thank the early investors for having the insight to back the new technologies when they were expensive and technically challenging.

We thank the early adopters for responding early to the call to decarbonise and choosing the pricey and lower performance initial models available at the time. By pioneering the use of new technology they put essential demand into the system that allowed manufacturing cost reductions to follow and provided the business case for continued improvements to the products. Improvements that we can all benefit from today.

Many of the initial investors and early adopters are not well known. Whilst a few of the initial investors have produced good financial rewards, we are particularly thankful to those principled early adopters who put environmental and technological progress ahead of personal financial returns.

Whilst we are far from implementing a decarbonised economy, we are in a very fortunate position of possibility. The problem is no longer one of despair: the technologies we need to decarbonise our lives are here. Arguably our greatest thanks would be to deploy these green products in every community, in every school, in every church and in every household.
