There is great potential for smart devices. Wouldn’t it be great for dishwashers to run automatically making use of wind and solar power and save money at the same time? We know renewables are intermittent – that is they don’t generate power all the time and there are other times when there is plenty of cheap electricity when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing. A smart device would know when to switch on and when to pause and could talk to other smart devices in the house so that they all make use of renewable energy and save money. All we would need to do is tell the devices when they must finish their tasks by and just let them get on with it.
